Sleepy, Wet, and Rusty

Sleepy, Wet, and Rusty

I finally got around to editing my GoPro video from the rainy season opener for USPSA at my gun club, and I was pretty rusty after the extended off-season (thanks to the kung flu). I had misses on all but two stages, which is way too many, but I’ll cut myself a little slack since I had just worked an overnight shift and was shooting on no sleep.

You’ll see one really painful miss on Stage 3 at 2:31, where I shoot two pepper poppers; I hit both, but as soon as I heard hits on steel I was moving out for the next position and didn't wait to see the second one fall. It didn't, and I had no idea until scoring.

Also interesting: I think Stage 2 is probably the first time I can point directly to power factor as the reason for my placing ahead of the next closest Single Stack shooter. We were only .37 seconds apart (I was slower), and we had the exact same hits on target. The only significant difference was that I was shooting major and he was shooting minor, which means my C-zone hits scored higher than his, and placed me ahead of him by just a smidge.

But hey…anybody could get off of a night shift and go home and sleep on a rainy day. But I’ll still testify that a day spent shooting somewhat poorly in the rain while sleep deprived is better than a day…well, not shooting. Get out to a match. It’s worth it.
