Love Over Like

Love Over Like

Fact: I haven’t watched an NFL football game since week two of the 2016 season. That’s when Colin Kaepernick started his hateful campaign against America. While I almost could have overlooked a single angry and misguided young man taking a knee during the National Anthem, when the League…in its refusal to put a stop to it…effectively condoned the behavior, I was done.

Now, you’ll not see me boasting on social media about how I don’t miss watching the NFL, because I do. And frankly it’s a little annoying to see posts from people saying in the same breath how they never did like watching football that much, but now they’re boycotting it out of righteous patriotic anger. So you’re giving up something that means literally nothing to you, and you don’t miss it at all, and I’m supposed to be impressed?

I like football. I enjoy watching the game, and I would enjoy watching the Super Bowl tonight. But because the National Football League cannot find a way to use the biggest game in the world to get its players and teams to unite in appreciation of the greatest nation on earth, I’ll be taking a knee on this one. Just like Colin Kaepernick, I’m sitting this one out. And I’ll continue to sit it out until the NFL can find a way to honor the country that makes it all possible.

I like football. But I love my country. And love wins, every time.

I will never choose football over this.

I will never choose football over this.
