Let's Go Shooting!

Let's Go Shooting!

I wrapped up National Shooting Sports Month 2021 with my regular USPSA match at Miami Rifle and Pistol Club. It was pretty unremarkable, with my shooting pretty much resembling…well, my shooting. One thing you will notice on Stage 2 (the stage with 24 steel targets) is that towards the end of the stage, one full-size popper simply refused to go down for me. By my count, I hit it five times before it finally fell. You’ll even see me look back at the Range Officer at one point to see if he was going to call a re-shoot for a range equipment failure…which he didn’t. To be fair, he had announced during the stage briefing that due to the amount of steel on the stage, we would not paint between runs unless the upcoming shooter requested it…which I did not. As paint is normally a requirement so that the RO can clearly see hits so that a positive call can be made regarding range equipment failure, the implication was that the shooter assumes the risk of a range equipment failure if they don’t ask for paint. Still, I kind of thought something that obvious would get me the call, but it didn’t. But since it is only a club level match and I’m not exactly a top competitor, I decided it wasn’t worth fussing over. Would have been nice to at least get credit for all those extra Alphas, though!

I also actually got a stage win in Single Stack for the classifier, “El Strong and Weak Pres,” though not really because of anything I did. There was only one other Single Stack competitor, and he’s an A Class shooter. Looking at his time and his score on that stage, it’s pretty clear he went full “pedal to the metal” in order to try and move up in class, but at the speed with which he shot the stage, he got a bunch of misses and no-shoots, and zeroed the stage. So it isn’t so much that I won the stage, but that he lost. He could easily beat me any day of the week.

At any rate, here’s my match…so let’s go shooting!
